Church Groups – Homewood

Uniformed Organisations

Several Brownies, Guides, Cub and Scout Groups are affiliated to the church. Parade Services are held twice a year.

Cosy Café

Between December and March, a warm space is offered in the Back Hall to members, friends, and the wider community on Thursday afternoons between 12.30 and 3pm. Soup and bread, fruit and cake, tea and coffee are served to those who would like them. During the rest of the year, Cosy Café takes place once a month, except August. There is no charge, but if you wish, there is an opportunity to make a donation.

Homewood Singers

This singing group meets in the church between 10am and 11.45 most Saturday mornings. We learn a variety of songs, both secular and religious, serious and fun. We sometimes sing during Morning Worship and lead services four times a year, including the Carol Service. We organise a Concert for Charity from time to time. People of all ages and musical abilities are welcome to come along and join in the fun.

Homewood Toddler Group

We run the Homewood Parent and Toddler Group on a Thursday, 10.00–11.30am, during term time. Toys, crafts, drinks and snacks for both carer and child. End-of-term parties and other activities are organised which are always very well received.

The Luncheon Club

We are a group of elderly folk who meet on a Wednesday from 10am–2pm in the back hall. Activities include scrabble, dominoes, quizzes, various games and discussions. We celebrate most festivals and national occasions. We also support the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance. A hot lunch is provided.

Book Club

Meets from time to time to discuss a Christian, spiritual or thought-provoking book recommended to the group. We currently meet approximately 6 times a year on a Tuesday evening.

Singles Sunday Lunch Club

A lunch at a local pub is organised approximately once a month after the Sunday morning service for members and friends who are single. It is a friendly group and a chance to eat, chat and enjoy good company.

Homewood Charity Knitters

This is a small, friendly group of knitters providing knitted and crocheted items for local and international charities, meeting at 7.30pm every other Wednesday during term time in the Back Hall. We welcome new members and if you want any more information please contact noni195@gmail.com

We have provided blankets for different charities including St Albans homeless, children's clothing, scarves and hats for Verso Care, the Separated Child Foundation, Sailors Society, Syria and many other baby charities where we know there is a need.

Strollers

Country walks of approximately 4–5 miles are organised by members of the church on a monthly basis. These take place in a variety of places around Hertfordshire and usually end with a pub lunch. Once a year, a 'Historic London Walk' is organised in June.

Progressive Christian Network

Part of the wider Progressive Christian Network Britain, we meet in person at Greenwood on the second Thursday of the month, and by Zoom on the fourth Thursday of the month to listen to a speaker and discuss the topic. For more details, please see pcnbritain.org.uk/groups/st-albans

Flower Guild

Is a group of dedicated ladies who use their skill to arrange fresh flowers for the church weekly. The flowers are donated by a person or family in memory of a loved one, and arranged by members of the Flower Guild. They always put on a wonderful display, particularly for the Harvest Festival Service, Easter and Christmas.
