Stay and Play @Greenwood
Thursdays 10am–12noon (term time)
The group is run by members of the church who all have a background in Early Years Education and childcare. Most of the morning is devoted to free play, outdoor when possible. A children's snack of toast and fruit and a hot drink for adults is offered from 10.30am. Tidy up starts at around 11.30am and a rhyme/story time is offered at 11.45am.
We aim to provide:
- A safe and caring environment which nurtures friendships
- Activities and resources that encourage the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual development of young children and their carers
- Ideas and inspiration for activities to undertake at home to continue learning
We ask for a minimum donation of £1 per person (adult or child).
Greenwood Ramblers
Greenwood Ramblers meet monthly on a Saturday morning. We have our planning meeting in January and any members can lead a walk. Our group is not all church members as over the years friends of members have joined us. We are a happy, friendly group. We are a group of 12 in total but numbers on the walks vary. We have slowed down compared to the pace we used to set; we go at the pace of the slowest.
We usually meet at 10am and car share to the meeting point which is not more than 30–40 minutes' drive away. Our walks are approximately 4 miles. We finish with a pub/café lunch where possible.
Memory Café
First Thursday of the month, 1.30–3.30pm
The memory café is hosted by church members and facilitated by volunteers who have had professional experience of supporting those living with dementia. We provide a safe and comfortable space in which to chat, play games and enjoy a cuppa. For more information, please email stalbansurcgreenwood@gmail.com
Progressive Christian Network
Part of the wider Progressive Christian Network Britain, we meet in person at Greenwood on the second Thursday of the month, and by Zoom on the fourth Thursday of the month to listen to a speaker and discuss the topic. For more details, please see pcnbritain.org.uk/groups/st-albans
Feel-Good Sunday Afternoons
This was inspired by an online workshop series run by the URC on Fresh Expressions of Church, which explores different ways of being a church in our community and for a changing culture. It is primarily for the benefit of people who are not already members of any church. It develops through listening, serving the community and gradually shaping a form of church reflecting both the gospel and the culture it serves. So far, we have shown feel-good films, had games and conversation afternoons. We wish to offer company, companionship and welcome to people who may find life lonely or difficult. For the next event please check the Calendar.
